Good news! pt Health now offers virtual physiotherapy, giving you the opportunity to receive treatment from the comfort of your own home through video conference technology.

Wondering how virtual physiotherapy works? In this Spotlight, we’ll share some first hand information from one of our physiotherapists with you.

Dan McDonald, Physiotherapist at Elmsdale Integrated Health Services Рpt Health has been offering virtual physiotherapy here for the past few weeks. Dan has a lot of experience providing virtual care, prior to joining pt Health.

Today, we’re talking to Dan about his experience with this service so far.

Q: Tell us about the type of treatments you can provide through virtual physiotherapy.

A: Acute or chronic injuries such as sprained ankles or knees, low back pain, neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain; post surgery (ACL rehabilitation, post hip or knee replacement);work-related injuries; motor vehicle accidents, injury prevention; pain management; education

Q: What has the patient experience been like with virtual care?

A: Patient experience has been really good Рpatients are appreciative that we are still connecting with them and helping them with their rehabilitation.

People feel empowered and are able to take control of their own rehabilitation. They have been very understanding and patient with this new form of treatment!

Q: Can you share your favourite story of how you helped a patient with virtual care?

A: Had a patient who typically only really had experience receiving passive-type care. Had a significant back flare-up around the same time as the COVID-19 social distancing measures came into effect and he could not attend in-person physiotherapy. He was quite fearful of increasing his pain, so did not leave the house or move to avoid aggravating his symptoms.

He left the virtual care session feel empowered and more confident in managing his symptoms with stretches and exercises. He also had more education on how movement can assist and alleviate pain.
