Are you looking to continue your rehabilitative treatment while practicing physical distancing and self-isolating?

Good news! pt Health now offers virtual physiotherapy, giving you the opportunity to receive treatment from the comfort of your own home through video conference technology.

Wondering how virtual physiotherapy works? In this Spotlight, we’ll share some first hand information from one of our physiotherapists with you.

Farah Mawani, Clinic Team Manager and Physiotherapist at Six Points Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation – pt Health has been offering virtual physiotherapy here for the past few weeks.

Today, we’re talking to Farah about her experience with this service so far.

Q: Tell us about the type of treatments you can provide through virtual physiotherapy.

A: We can offer virtual care appointments to all patients including patients with musculoskeletal conditions or post concussion syndrome.

Q: What has the patient experience been like with virtual care?

A: We have received lots of positive feedback regarding virtual care.

Patients like the convenience and safety of being able to work with a therapist from the comfort of their own home. In addition, the virtual care platform gives the therapist an opportunity to observe patients performing their exercises using the equipment and environment that is available at home.

This way we can ensure that exercises that may normally be performed using gym equipment can be reproduced at home and result in positive clinical outcomes and improved functional ability.

Q: Can you share your favourite story of how you helped a patient with virtual care?

A: We recently conducted a virtual care appointment with a patient experiencing knee pain from general osteoarthritis.

This patient was having a hard time reproducing his exercise program at home. Through the virtual care platform our therapist was able to help guide him into performing his exercises in an effective and safe manner using what was available to him at home.

Now, he is able to confidently perform his exercises daily without any special equipment and is excited to be able to return to daily walks and weekend bike rides now that he no longer experiences pain in his knees.
